This is a first teaching day in Yosemite Valley where students learn how to succeed on their NatureBridge program here in Yosemite (knowing where they are, elements of working together) and the basic geologic history of Yosemite Valley.
The Earth Moves can be a theme to connect geology, teambuilding, sense of place, and personal growth, especially on a first day with students. This lesson plan is written as a first day on the west end of Yosemite Valley.
This year theme for Project Pluton focuses on life science and ecology. Students explore what lives in the park and consider how those living things are connected to each other and abiotic factors.
This theme can be used to help students understand that challenges can be rewarding. It helps tie together a day where students think about how something is worth the trouble of trying to get it.
