This Elwha Heroes resource is meant to be used during an Elwha program or off site. There are many ways to use the cards: EOTO, card hike, having students become the people and introduce self to others, etc.
These cards are designed to hand out to students as journal prompts. They can serve as an introduction to the inquiry process. They could also be used in small groups as a guide to creating a student-driven inquiry project.
This resource includes a number of different breathing techniques to use with students. These are helpful in practicing mindfulness, helping a student to calm down after a tense situation, bring quiet to a moment, or just for a dose of silliness.
These cards include ideas for how to use the leadership compass and descriptions of each direction. The Leadership Compass has four direction that each have a different quality of power, each with it’s own strengths and potential weaknesses.
These cards and discussion questions accompany Brief Encounters (Pandyas and Choilas). This is an adaptation of the Alcans and Bumbas activity. Instructions for this variation are included in the Adaptations section of that activity plan.
A helpful list of SEL questions for use in debriefing an activity. These questions promote student awareness of thoughts, feelings, and actions. They promote self-understanding (INTRA-personal skill) and social awareness (INTER-personal skill).
This is a compilation of readings and quotes that are particularly suited for the deeper discussions and themes on backcountry trips. They could also be utilized to inspire students taking part in regular day programming.
